Remember that post from the summer about my hand block printing project in India, the scarves I promised I'd eventually unleash upon the world in an explosion of vegetable-dyed silken marigold garland elephant trumpeting sustainable business practice magic? Well, my two-year-long collaboration with master printer Vijendra Chhipa and my sister Hopie Stockman is finally off the ground: last week our first big shipment of hand block printed vegetable-dyed scarves arrived from Rajasthan, and they are even more beautiful than I remembered. The word "scarf" does little justice; each textile is an art object, a one-of-a-kind textile so elegant and sumptuous and yet incredibly durable and versatile. Just like the kinda women we envision wearing these bad boys. Draping one around my neck feels like assuming a lion's mantle. I AM SO FLIPPING EXCITED I CAN BARELY STAND IT.
So. Ladies and gentlemen, Block Shop Textiles.
Our Block Shop scarves will be available for purchase on our website soon; sign up for our official launch notification to make sure you get in on the action in time for the holidays.
In the words of Ira, stay with us...and in the mean time, thank you for all the excitement and support. (And, if you're in New York, stop by my open studio event tomorrow to catch a sneak peek of the scarves!) WHEEEEE!
Congratulations, Lilygal.
