What Flowers Say

{Look Pretty, Talk Mean}

A few broken stems from a larger bundle of farmer's market flowers plus some restrained sidewalk plucking around Dolores Park make for an easy-to-love San Francisco posy: blushing ranunculus (I die!), poppies, lavender, Mexican sage, and the wee branch of fruitless olive. I'm a sucker for no-fuss arrangements where the flowers do all the talking, and these flowers are saying IT'S SPRING, MOTHEREFFERS!

Also, they tell me GET BACK TO WORK. And YOU ARE A PROCRASTINATING SIMPLETON and YOU DIDN'T MAKE YOUR BED THIS MORNING, but that's neither here nor there.

Mkay, back to work. Hope you had a good weekend.

  1. I'm a procrastinator who didn't make her bed and should get back to work too! Though I don't have such lovely yet mouthy flowers to tell me this... They know what's up!

  3. loooove all those colours! i visited a museum today and found a book on ontario wildflowers - and finally found my childhood favourite flower in it (hooray!)...it's called montane blue-eyed grass (sisyrinchium montanum) and i think it would fit right in with those ladies you've gathered there. :)

  5. "GET BACK TO WORK. And YOU ARE A PROCRASTINATING SIMPLETON and YOU DIDN'T MAKE YOUR BED THIS MORNING" And I thought it is just me, hearing those sounds. Here in Berlin it's tulips and cherrie branches screaming at me. Those flowers...

    1. Berlin in spring sounds absolutely beautiful (if still just as bossy, flower-wise).

  6. I've always loved ranunculus...they remind me of slightly tipsy little old ladies, playing bridge while sipping sherry. I suppose I'm thinking of my grandmother!!

  11. Leave it to ranunculus to be sassy....most people don't give them enough sass cred.
    The purple freesia in my bedroom is kind of a siren - it's saying "you don't need to take a shower or get dressed, get back in bed and read or nap - we'll sing to you."

    I know. Weird, right?
