{Plus Five Links Worth Clicking}

Just back from a much-needed trip to the wilds of New Hampshire with the huz and a crew of nine wonderful friends. On Sunday afternoon as everyone napped off their hangovers P. and I hiked up to the one-room board-and-batten log cabin his grandparents' friends built back in the late '50s. Off the grid is a euphemism here; the outhouse is a slippery scramble down the hill and there's no electricity, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't start researching build-your-own cabin plans as soon as we got home. You see, we're aspiring to graduate from the Scamp to a slightly larger structure, maybe something that even has a foundation if you wanna get fancy about it. We've got cabin fever something turrible.
Speaking of cabin fever, some links you may or may not have seen floating around the web which either way deserve your immediate attention. Pour another cup of coffee and prepare to lose the next hour of productivity:
Cabin Porn
Beaver Brook (and the original article about the place in NYMag)
Downton Abbey paper dolls
Maddie the coonhound standing on stuff
You're welcome.

I thought you might be exaggerating, but NO, ALL OF THOSE links are so click-worthy! I'd choose a favorite, but I can't. They are all so wonderful. There goes my next hour...
ReplyDeleteThis is too good not to share. Email from my mom in response to the Downton Abbey paper dolls:
ReplyDelete"This is too wonderful- But they forgot Mrs. Hughes and her hundred pounds of house keys- invariably leading to her physical
decline and eventual osteoporosis. And they might have had fun with Bates and Anna (and their singularly unsteamy wedding night scene- resplendent with white, fleshy English man-arms)."
Yes! We have all kinds of cabin sketches floating around our apartment currently. The lack of electricity + water can be considered charming, right?
ReplyDeleteOMG! HahahahahahahahaHahahahahahahahaHahahahahahahaha!!! To say I'm laughing my ASS OFF would be an understatement. That Maggie? Are you f'n kidding me? Seriously the best, cutest, funniest project EVER!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and the cabin looks great too ;) I'm not sure how I feel about the Scamp selling idea. I mean, I get it. Once you do a cross-country trip it's kind of "been-there-done-that" but it's YOUR Scamp! You brought her back to life. Can't you turn it into some kind of mobile art gallery/taco truck?
xoxo
Maddie! Not Maggie. Jeeez... :(
ReplyDeleteomigosh, maddie is such a total sweetheart! i wish *i* had a dog to put on top of things. (like me, when i need a hug.) <3333
ReplyDeleteoh my, i LOVE that cabin! and you did not just put a link up for downton abbey paper dolls....i mean, i am steeped in manor intrigues enough as it is...
ReplyDeletei am cabin crazy as well. if you don't know/own any books by lloyd kahn...get on it sista!
ReplyDeleteI love how the Matthew and Mary dolls include Mr. Pamuk! Oh, and the 'evil flour' too.
ReplyDeleteWell, that cabin looks fantastic - the whole cabin getaway sounds stellar! I sure do love the tiny little A-frame in Big Sur (minus the glaring dude on the porch) and I could also spend a few good days in the Dolomites of Austria.
Thanks for sharing!

Now that's just RIDIKLISS, that cabin is. I keep talking about building a tiny prefab somewhere, but then I remember that assembling IKEA shelves makes me weep and curse the gods.
ReplyDeleteOkay HILARIOUS what your mother said.
ReplyDeleteAnd that little cabin is so perfect! We can't wait to build one of our own. Talk about it allll the time (while drooling over cabin porn yes), so I totally understand what you mean. xx
Looks AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI’d really appreciate you stopping by Tulips&Tulle soon!
You know how I feel about this...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the cabin porn!!!!!! It is very much needed over here in my neck of the woods. Love these photos Lily. BISOUS!
ReplyDeleteoh man i just found the beaver brook tumblr yesterday and when i first saw these photos i thought you had too. but now i'm just jealous of your cabin time!
ReplyDeletei love downton abbey anything. i made the main theme my ring tone and when my grandmother (who is slightly farther ahead in the series than i) let slip that one of my favorite characters died, i got misty eyed on the phone. i'm ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteto improve your cabin fever, here is a little snap about our friends cabin hotel, called "hüttenpalast".
ReplyDeletehttp://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/interactive/2012/feb/21/berlin-huttenpalast-hotel-short-breaks?fb=native
it is a magical place, in the middle of berlin. luckily close enough to my studio, to have coffee there. often.
Oh yes, please Lilly build your cabin and post pictures. Fast!! To live in a cabin a few months a year has always been a dream of mine. I already knew Cabin Porn, but Beaver Brook really blew my mind.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!! You know Hubs and I love the off the grid possibilities. I've been loving cabinporn. Using it for just that a virtual get-a-way. Now I'm off to brew coffee and settle in for some linking :-)
ReplyDeleteI HAVE CABIN FEVER>>>!
