Say It With Flowers

{A Show! In New Joisey!}

installation photos by Grier Stockman

Hi gang! P. and I spent the weekend Testing Our Relationship, which every artist's partner knows goes a little something lika this (sub in your applicable proper nouns): renting a U-Haul in Chelsea (where they might as well take a DNA sample because you practically sign your life away when you rent a cargo van in Manhattan), double-parking in the most congested square block of the East Village, packing and loading several hundred pounds of mostly-but-maybe-not-entirely-dry paintings, and maneuvering down the choked artery of ye olde charming Jersey Turnpike during rush-hour. Whee!

But it was totally worth it (right, husband?). Today my solo show opens in Princeton, and I've been looking forward to this moment for six months. The highlight has been working with an amazing curator whose brilliant installation decisions really make the space come alive; the effect is somewhat of a Martha Stewart garden tour acid trip. Which is exactly what we're going for here, people. I've never been so excited for a show!

The opening reception is this Saturday. If you come I promise to ply you with good wine and fun facts about 19th century botanical art. You get to meet my whacky family, too. Win-win. You'll also get first dibs on my silhouette relief prints on handmade Japanese gampi paper, which the marvelous Kiki Smith helped me pull in the NYU print shop. Shazam.

  29. So so so so beautiful. That marigold colored one with the black rectangles just floors me. I urged my children to come by, but my daughter has a date out of town, and my son has no other transportation. Boo! We are there in spirit. And I love your piece in my living room all over again at least once if not twice a day.
