PS1 + Stiff Drinks

{Plus a Surprise Visit from Our Favorite Four-Legged Biscuit}

Tromped through the puddles to the New York Art Book Fair at PS1, where we also caught the excellent 9/11 show (it's not quite what you think. definitely worth seeing). An Airstream-turned-bookstore won our admiration, but the suspendered fellow playing ragtime on the piano down the road at the Manhattan Inn, in Greenpoint, stole our hearts (the peeling pressed-tin roof, enormous rain-sparkling skylight, stupendous burgers with sprouts, reclaimed wood paneling and neighborhood vibe helped, too). On Sunday my mom and dad came into Brooklyn for the Extended Birthday Spectacular for said dearest mummy (who is the sunshine in our lives) where I delivered on the promise of the Best Birthday BLT: house-cured upstate bacon, baby watercress and last-chance heirloom tomatos on just-out-of-the-oven bread at Applewood, a darling little spot in my neighborhood in Park Slope. And the best surprise of all? Mom and Pops brought a certain beloved little corgi in for the day, which filled my (and P's, and, apparently, Mac's) heart with so much joy for those few hours that when it came time to say goodbye, he started whining and I got all lump-throated. It's become abundantly clear that with my 12-, sometimes 16-hour days in the studio Mac and Dolly are much, much better off at the farm for now. Big sigh. P. always says you can have anything you want in life, but just not all at the same time. Cept when it comes to bacon-chocolate bars. You can totally have your bacon and chocolate at the same time. Thank *goodness.*
