What's hotter than industrial grain storage facilities in India? Not much, people. Come see the new paintings (and the insaneface installation of work by my three cohorts, starring a pimped-out rickshaw that will make you blush) on opening night at Threshold Gallery in New Delhi, Friday April 1st, 6-7:30 PM. This is the culmination of nearly eight months of work (researching and developing the project and making the paintings was the easy part; getting funding for the traveling exhibition and organizing the logistics of moving an art show around India, not so much), and the icing on the cake is that the Times of India did a feature on the show today (!), complete with a rambling quote about the architectural monuments of India's contemporary visual landscape etc., etc., etc. by yours truly, which you can read online here.

Urthing's for sale, people, so if something strikes your fancy hit me up before the show opens to the masses on Friday night! lily.stockman at gmail.com. All oil on panel, 100% archival, mounted in custom-made minimalist frames.

xo.

  14. full humidity is definitely my favorite. if i wasn't on a college budget i would gladly take it off your hands and hang it proudly in my home.

sort of off topic but not because we're "talkin' shop" (that's what my uncle always said when one of his mechanic friends was hanging out in the garage discussing parts/labor/whatever and since we're both artists i think this euphemism applies), but do you have any advice for writing an artist statement? resources that were super helpful?

and do you have "painting clothes" that are covered in splatters and smears like i do? or are you one of those remarkable artists that manages to contain your mess?

    xx Rhiannon

  19. Aw, thanks so much, team! It's been so much fun sharing the process along the way with you all, and I'm so touched by all the positive comments and emails! SPANXXX!!!

And Rhiannon- my best advice is to poke around online and download the artist statements from some young, articulate artists you like, and read them carefully to understand why they're good, or what you like about them. Brevity, clarity, and saying what you mean is most important. New American Paintings is a great place to start.

  24. Good work, lily. When I saw bits of your paintings from previous posts I thought you were painting silos from the Midwest. It all makes sense now.

Kick some A tonight...or right now...depending on the time difference.
