And, We're Off

{Pantless in India}

When you only have one pair of pants for a year in India (true fact) and you drop them off at the corner dhobi for a thorough sudsy beating, don't expect to ever seen them again. I should know this rule. However, I now find myself in the curious predicament of being pantless, with a 6am bus to catch to Jodhpur. I have one pair of cropped spandex with conspicuous neon green reflective stripes all over the place (for all that running I've been doing in India) and one pair of thread-bare black leggings that are so saggy in the hindquarters you could smuggle puppies to Kashmir in them (no dryers here, people).  What's a girl to do?

Anyway, how about some pictures from last week? See you in a few days.

Pics of Jaipur, Udaipur and the Rohet Ghar tent camp...more details soon. When I have pants.

  4. Buy more saris!

    I got to hear Vandana Shiva speak once and she said that she wears the sari because pants "are like prisons for your legs." Maybe your cleaner agrees?

  6. Oh, Lil, you are hilarious and awesome. And when you come home, you can wear my pants and smoke my opium and eat my naan and drink my chai.....just as long as you tell me, honestly, are the colors in India THAT much brighter than they are in the rest of the world? Because right now your photos of gorgeous India are making Joshua Tree seem like that washed-out pair of tan granny panties in bin full of brilliantly-hued silk thongs spun with gold thread. Or something to that effect.

    My best friend Rana has been trying to get me to visit his family in India for over a decade; your trials and tribulations almost make me want to take him up on that offer.

    I said *almost*.

    Love and pantlessness....

  7. I had to go to a fancy party but I forgot my dress home. All I had in my bag was a pair of jeans (dirty) and a pair of military camouflage pants. I wore those and it was a success. You never know.

    As for pants suggestions... I've been to quite a few Indian weddings and I would love to try wearing one of their beautiful saris! Pick up a few at the market and see how it goes! Who needs pants anyway?
