  6. Congratulations!!!!!!!! I love those photos and those sandals are killing me! I love them!

  7. See that bangle? The pink one? With the glitters on it? I had that one. 28 years ago, but I'm think it hasn't changed much. It is so exciting that you have a show. I'm very happy for you.

  8. Yay for finding an apartment! And I love these photos!!! The snake eek and the elephant swoon. What an amazing city! Congrats on your show!!!! XO

p.s. maybe i missed this part... why are you in jaipur?

  10. Wow, I've seen photos of India before obviously, but never really of one particular named place, just as a jumbled anonymous mass. Jaipur looks seriously beautiful, I have to add it to my travel wishlist now! Congrats on the pad & the show, I don't know why but I thought you were only in India for 3 months - does this mean you're staying for good?? And we will be treated to even more awesome colourful photos? :)

  11. Ah!!! Ahhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhh!

    WHEN in spring, dear Lil?

  12. Congrats on the apartment and a show!

  13. Thanks team! You guys are the BEST.

LPC- your pink bangle days are not behind you...we may need to get you some new ones.

Fit with Flash- my huz is doing his research for his grant here in Jaipur (drinking water, desert, corruption, etc.) and I'm doing research for my upcoming residency here on traditional textile design, which I'm incorporating into my paintings. Jaipur was the perfect place for us to set up shop for a while for our respective projects.

Amy W- We're in India for a YEAR! We planned it this way. P. has a year long grant and I have two artist-in-residencies. We leave in June.

'Manda- March 12. In the Himalayan foothills. Wanna come?

  14. hi,

i am a journalist in jaipur, and would like to know where the show, that you have mentioned in the post, is going to be held.

and here's wishing that you have a nice stay in jaipur. :)

  15. ps: in case you need any help, please feel free to mail me at

i may not be all that big a help, but i'll try, at least...

  16. Arkadev- thank you for the nice inquiry! The show is in March at the Winterline Centre for the Arts in Mussourie (Uttarakhand); I'll email you with details.

Micha- Next stop on the Merrick Sisters Tour: Rajasthan? Just throwin' that out there. xo

  17. your photos are wild!! really enjoying them!

  18. Ahhh, color for the colorist. Those textiles are stunning. I don't think one could ever experience that kind of man made beauty and view the world the same. We are all different sides of the same coin, hands of man thing, ancient wisdom. Depths of despair to the heights of the heavens. One coin. Beautiful pictures as always.

  19. love the pigeon shot, oh and the lotus <3 ... and all the others too. I never been to rajasthan, so I can't wait to hear more about your life there~ congrats on finding an apt. so much better than lugging your stuff around I'm sure ;)

  20. A year! A chance to really get to grips with the place :) Lovely

  21. beautiful pictures....they are a colopalooza....i love it! congratulations on your shows....

  22. i'm *finally* ready to admit that i'm sort of envious of your life.

    Hi Lily,

I've been reading your blog ever since this past summer while I was stuck at home on couch confinement with a nasty cut on my foot. I owe you for making the inability to walk for two weeks more bearable.

Anyway, school has been keeping me away from blog reading and I'm just now starting to catch up on your India adventures (as always, your entries are lovely). When I got to this post I literally let out a yelp of glee. Reason: the fourth picture (green archway) is from my absolute favorite movie, The Fall. If ever a film was beautiful, it's this one. I don't know if you've ever seen it, but you should! It's really wonderful.

    The Fall:

Still from the movie featuring the green archway:

Enjoy the rest of your time in India!
