Beauty and the Sublime

{Montana's Glacier National Park}

Hands-down, Glacier was the most staggering landscape of the trip. Soaring snow-capped peaks jutted vertically from alpine meadows, while snow-melt cascades swept down the sheer cliffs like gauzy bridal veils. The weather was as dramatic as the landscape; as we drove up the famed Going-To-The-Sun Road a violent thunderstorm stewed the sky into a sublime, unnatural yellow before the hail started and we rushed back to our campground. The next morning we took a bracing dip in the clear glacial waters of Lake McDonald and then we hit the road. I could have spent the entire summer there. Preferably with a pack mule. And a sidecar for Biscuit.

Next stop: Elkhorn Ranch, my home away from home.

    ps. I am very jealous of your little Biscuit. Corgis are my favorite kind of dog and I have always wanted one so badly! Every time there is an adorable picture of Biscuit I smile a great big smile.

  15. Oh what photos! Thank you for bringing us with you! I spent a summer living in a small cabin Driggs, Idaho (2000) just over the mountain pass from Jackson Wyoming and seeing your photos brings back memories of that area. Spectacular wilderness.

  20. We were just there, like seriously JUST there. It is amazing, I loved it and now I want to go back...again and again and again.

    Have you done Alaska yet? Supposedly that's the next big adventure once you see Montana.

  21. These photos make me want to sing some Sound of Music and stroll through the hills with my arms out like Maria.

    "Cliiiiimb every Mountain
    Foooord every stream....
    Somethinnnngggg, somethinggg,
    until we find our dream"

    No idea of the lyrics but I love it.

  24. This is paradise! My husband is convinced we should buy a little camper for future family trips, but I can't get visions of overly populated campgrounds out of my head! Now, THIS kind of camping you're doing is for me. Breathtaking scenery, wide open spaces and privacy...oh, and the good-looking food and beer help. I'm definitely inspired, and by the way, I love your renovation of the little camper.
